If you are processing a large number of BY groups in PROC RELIABILITY, then memory problems may occur. Sparse data (few failures or events) in some or all of the BY groups exacerbates this problem.
In some cases, PROC RELIABILITY may terminate with an out of memory error and/or a "cannot open utility file" message.
There are no circumventions at this time other than to process smaller numbers of BY groups in separate jobs. The number of BY groups in these partitions must be determined by trial and error.
